White HORSES in FRANCE
Living in a secluded region of southern France, the Camargue horses are an ancient breed descended from the Stone Age and native to this wild, elemental landscape. Considered to be among the oldest horse breeds on Earth, their exact lineage remains a mystery, yet their resilience is undeniable. For centuries, they have roamed a challenging yet strikingly beautiful environment shaped by wind, water, and salt. Recognizable by their powerful, sculpted musculature and dark, expressive eyes, these horses radiate a quiet intensity and wild spirit.
Drew’s artistic instinct, paired with his work in the region and trusted local relationships, transforms this creative expedition into an extraordinary encounter with this ancient and surreal breed of horses.

DAY by DAY ITINERARY
Upon arrival in Marseille, Drew will meet you and transport you to the beautiful, idyllic seaside town of Santes-Maries-de-la-Mer, our home for the duration of our time in the Camargue. This historic seaside town, often considered the capital of the Camargue, offers an inspiring blend of centuries-old architecture, Mediterranean light, and a walkable village atmosphere that invites exploration during moments of downtime. The picturesque architecture against the backdrop of the Mediterranean has inspired artists and travelers for generations; Van Gogh even painted its streets.
Each day is thoughtfully structured around the best light and conditions for photography. Early mornings and late afternoons are dedicated to private photo sessions in the Camargue’s most emblematic locations, including salt marshes, reflective waters, and serene beaches. This array of settings allows for us to create a wide range of imagery, from capturing powerful stallions and dynamic group movement to quiet, tender moments where the horses appear carved directly from the landscape. We’ll also have the opportunity to visit an authentic local barn, providing access to intimate, candid scenes that reveal a quieter side of the Camargue horses.
Midday hours offer time to rest, recharge, and review the morning’s work in a private meeting room reserved for image critique and discussion. In total, we will have six carefully timed photographic sessions, with flexibility built into the schedule, including the opportunity for a makeup session on the final day should weather require adjustments earlier in the week.
We’ll spend our evenings exploring the town, enjoying fresh food right outside our doorstep.
On departure day, you’ll be transported back to Marseille to catch your flight onward.
