Life Above the UNBELIEVABLE
Yellowstone in winter is a photographer’s paradise, where vast, snow-blanketed landscapes stretch to the horizon, rivers breathe steam into the cold morning air, and geysers erupt with mesmerizing rhythm against a backdrop of silence. This is Yellowstone at its most elemental and untamed, a season when the park slows, the crowds disappear, and nature reveals itself with resilience and rare intimacy.
Beyond bison, bald eagles perch along frozen rivers, elk gather in quiet herds, coyotes and foxes roam freely, and steam rises from thermal features that glow softly in the low winter sun. With the flexibility to follow conditions, light, and wildlife behavior, each day unfolds with our photographic intentions in mind, with Drew available to offer as much creative guidance as you’d like.

DAY by DAY ITINERARY
Upon arrival, Drew will meet you at the airport, where you’ll travel together to your hotel in Bozeman for a good night’s rest before our early morning drive to West Yellowstone.
We’ll depart for West Yellowstone after breakfast, embarking on a scenic drive of approximately three hours, weather permitting. As the landscape unfolds, the journey begins to stir the senses, offering an early glimpse into the photographic possibilities that await in Yellowstone. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our hotel to settle in, prepare our gear, and enjoy time to rest and reset before the following day’s immersion into Yellowstone National Park, located just a short drive away.
We’ll dedicate the next three days to immersive winter photography within the park, with a primary focus on bison moving through frosty conditions, particularly along the steaming corridors of the Firehole River, where snow, ice, and rising mist create some of the park’s most iconic winter scenes. Each day unfolds with flexibility, guided by light, weather, and wildlife activity, allowing us to adapt as we desire to be in the right place at the right time.
In addition to bison, we’ll keep an eye out for wolves, coyotes, trumpeter swans, geothermal steam vents, erupting geysers, and other winter wildlife and scenes that define Yellowstone’s cold-season character.
Each day of our time in West Yellowstone, we’ll depart our hotel at sunrise in order to spend the full day in the field with thoughtfully planned stops and packed lunches to maximize shooting time, and return by mid-to-late afternoon to warm up, recharge, and review the day’s images.
After breakfast, we’ll drive back into Bozeman for our flights home.
